During the month of October Conway, SC officially transforms into Halloween, SC. The City of Conway loads up on the events calendar for October, truly transforming into a must-see destination for Halloween lovers. Check out the incredible decorations around downtown including hundreds of pumpkins hanging from the trees along Main Street. The town is hosting a kickoff Boo-Ginning party on Oct. 1 with a costume march and contest and concert on the Town Green (including a performance by Ghoul Vibrations). From Movie nights on The Terror, to Midnight Markets, to DJ sets at the new Haunticleer Cemetery, to the Skeleton Orphanage (get there while supplies last!), to Pedal Pub tours where you can pedal through Conway’s historic streets while enjoying seasonal treats and curated stops, there are nonstop options for fun. Some of the fun is targeted to kids, while some is geared to people who like scares - like the different pirate ship adventures along the scenic riverfront and three Fear Factory haunted attractions. It's important to note that many events are already sold out like the Witches, Wizards, and Wine event and the Conway Ghost Walks - so plan EARLY! And pack your patience, especially on the weekends, because the crowds are pretty insane.
2. brookgreen gardens Harvest Home Weekend and imagination walk
Harvest Home Weekend: Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 3-4, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
Children's Imagination Walk: Saturday, Oct. 24, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Brookgreen Gardens is our favorite spot to visit year-round, and they host two awesome family friendly weekend events in October. During Harvest Home Weekend, you can enjoy crafts, food trucks, live music, and build (and take home) scarecrows! Individually prepared kits are available, or bring your own clothing to use! For $7, you can take your Scarecrow home. The pumpkin patch and scarecrow building are always a family favorite, and younger children will enjoy the hay maze. Pumpkin decorating is also available ($5 for small pumpkins, $9 for large). During the Children's Imagination Walk you can pick up your map to create crafts, play games, collect candy, and uncover special surprises. There will be a Costume Parade at 2:00 pm with prizes for the most creative costumes. Both events are included with garden admission.
3. FALl Fun at Southern Palmetto Farms
Open every Saturday in October 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 2-6 p.m.
Family fall fun at Southern Palmetto Farms includes wagon rides to the Pumpkin Patch, jump pad fun, unlimited barrel rides, the Laineyville's Play Area, Barnyard Bubble Station, the over 100' Ultimate Drop Slide and Rustic Racing Slides, ring toss, sensory Corn Pit, pedal trikes, and pig racing. You can also visit Farm Animal Alley for animal feedings/petting and find your way through the 5+-acre Corn Maze Fun with the Farm Scene Investigation Game. Oct. 3 and 4 is Grandparents Weekend, Oct. 10 and 11 is Pumpkin Palooza, Oct. 17 and 18 is Barnyard Bonanza, and Oct. 24 and 25 honors First Responders and military. The season includes with a Halloween Spooktacular on Oct. 31 with trick or treating, a costume contest, and more. Tickets are $15 for ages 3 and up.
4. SOUTHLAND FALL FESTIVAL
Open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in October, family friendly festival from 5-7 p.m., Haunted Trail from 8-10 p.m.
The Southland Fall Festival is located in Conway and includes thousands of twinkling lights, a pick-and-carve pumpkin station, 8 unique photo opportunities, 7 bounce houses, Halloween movies under the stars, cozy fire pits, local artisan crafts, snacks, and drinks, petting zoo experiences, and a spooky-but-not-scary trail designed especially for younger guests. If you're looking for a spookier evening, they also host the Southern Roots Haunted Trail, which is a perfect beginner "haunted house" experience for preteens and still super fun for adults. You can get tickets for just the festival at $16.55 for ages 3 and up or a combo ticket for $21.21.
5. thompson farm fALL FUN
Open Saturdays-Sundays, Sept. 19-Nov. 1
There are seven themed weekends of fall fun at Thompson Farms, including Hometown Heroes, Grandparents Weekend, Baby's First Pumpkin, Touch A Tractor, Princess Power, Superhero Spectacular, Helicopter Candy Drop, and Bluey-themed Pawesome Fall Finale. Each event includes the 6.5-acre corn maze, farmhouse animals, slides and a play area, and more. Admission is $17.18 for ages 3 and up, and you can also get a season pass that's $36.69 for ages 3 and up.
6. The Hollows haunted hayride at wild woods farm
Every Friday-Sunday Oct. 9-31, gates open at 5 p.m. for farm tickets and 7 p.m. for hayride only
Tickets for The Hollows are $25 for 3 and up, kids 3 and under are free. There is also a combo ticket with entrance to the farm from 5-7 p.m. included for $35 - and it's totally worth it! This isn’t just any farm! They have everything from camels to capybaras to zebras. If you want to feed the animals, it’s $5 and you get a LOT of food. We spent the entire two hours exploring, and the kids also enjoyed the small hay maze and corn play area. The haunted hayride was so fun and our 11-year-old loved it. It's a perfect introductory spooky event. And this is the only haunted hayride in the area!
7. Ghoul Vibrations at lakewood camping resort
Fridays in October: 7 and 9 p.m.
This high energy show at the Theater by the Sea featuring amazing Halloween music sung live with high-energy choregraphy by some of the most talented ghouls around is FREE and open to the public. Guaranteed seating is available for $6, which includes early entry and popcorn if you call 843-447-7343.
8. Halloween on the MarshWalk
Friday, Oct. 31, 5 p.m.
The Marshwalk’s longest running event, Halloween on the MarshWalk brings fun and prizes to the whole family. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with trick-or-treating for the kids. All eight restaurants have food and drink specials. The annual Children’s Costume Contest is at 6 p.m. in front of Drunken Jack’s at the Pirate Statue. Prizes will be awarded for the Most Creative, Best Group, Funniest, and Scariest prizes for kids ages 3 and up. Kids 2 and under will compete for the Awes Applause award. Prizes include trophies, ribbons, and candy bags. The Adult Costume Contest begins at 7 p.m. with over $4,000 in cash and prizes. Categories include Best Duo, Best Group, Best Individual, Most Creative, Big & Bulky, Murrells Inlet Themed and Honorable Mention.
9. BOOFEST! AT BAREFOOT LANDING
Boofest!: Saturday, Oct. 24, 12-4 p.m.
Boofest! is a family friendly event featuring costume contests for the kids and pets. Registration for the contests begins at 11 am. In addition to the costume contests, BooFest! will also feature costumed stilt walkers, some vendor booths with kids activities and more. Note that Trick or Treat at Barefoot Landing takes place on Saturday, Oct. 31st from 5-7 p.m.
10. Halloween boonanza at North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex
Saturday, Oct. 24, 5-8 p.m.
The City of North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with Coastal Carolina University’s Leadership class, converts the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex into a spooktacular site for an array of Halloween fun during the BOOnanza. Activities will include a monster mash DJ, marshmallow roasting, games, inflatables, and more. Come dressed in your best costume and don't forget your goodie bag to collect your tricks and treats. The event is $5 for ages 3 and up.
